STUDENT STORIES OF SALT COMPANY

CALEB’S STORY

Going into freshman year at Minnesota I was fully prepared to live in the party scene and worry about my faith once I graduated.

I started to go to Salt Company because I was invited by friends from high school and to make my mom happy. Little did I know that the first Salt Company kickoff on Coffman Union lawn was going to change my life forever. The party scene only brought regret and loneliness. I started for the first time in my life to regularly read my Bible and pursue other spiritual disciplines.

I learned the true importance of the gospel in my life.

I found a group of guys within Salt that became my new best friends. I began to confess sin in connection group, and received grace and love from them. The shame I held from past sin evolved into seeing God’s glory work through those past sins.

Student Leadership pushed me to go all in with my faith even further. It taught me how to truly live a life chasing after Jesus Christ. I thank God every day for placing me on Coffman lawn that one night freshman year. That was the night that kick-started my eternal pursuit of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

KAYLIE’S STORY

Prior to coming into college, I didn’t know Jesus. I was relying on acceptance from everyone around me, trying to fit in perfectly with every group that surrounded me.

I was earning good grades, being involved in as many clubs as possible at school, achieving in competitive dance, and maintaining a “good” reputation as the “smart and put-together girl.” What I thought was fulfilling me was slowly tearing me down. Since that fall semester of my sophomore year, I have been discipled and shepherded by the connection group leaders and the Salt Company staff to see more fully what it means to live a life following Jesus; not just following rules, but actually having a real relationship with Jesus.

Through Salt Co, God has changed the trajectory of my life, from death to life in Jesus Christ.

They have shown me the gospel truth that Jesus has died for my sins and actually doesn’t expect anything from me and that this is true for the past me, the current me, and the future me. God has used Salt Company in so many amazing ways in my life so much so that I can be confident in my identity as a child of God, as His daughter.

JACK’S STORY

The first time I walked into Salt Company, I only knew three people, but I could feel that there was something different about the people in that room.

I was lost, broken, and confused to start college as I started to realize that I couldn’t find my identity in the things of the world.  They only brought me temporary satisfaction, just to let me down in the next moment. Salt Company is a family that has shown me authenticity that is contagious on a lost college campus. As I kept coming back every week, I started to get to know the stories of those around me and got to see how God changed the eternal courses of those people and freed them from their brokenness.

I find confidence in the fact that we are just ordinary people being shaped by an extraordinary God.

Hearing the good news of Jesus every week at Salt Company reminds me of my purpose and gives me the fuel to invite others into the community that has brought me so much joy.

MEL’S STORY

Salt Company has been a really sweet way for me to grow in my faith throughout college.

The first time I went to Salt Company, the energy and community were contagious and something I wanted to be a part of.

Salt Company has helped me to learn what the Gospel actually is. I knew bits and pieces, but I was still really new to what following Jesus actually looked like.

One of the things I love most about Salt Company is that they teach from the Bible. This has helped me to grow a deep love for God’s word where I’m able to learn about Jesus every day. I was blind to the weight of my sin and the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection, but my eyes have been opened to the new identity and renewed purpose that I have in Him. These truths have caused my daily life to look different, spending time with God in the Bible, prayer, and worship. My confidence comes from the Lord and His faithfulness.
